Welcome from Pastor Kent

I was born and raised in the Methodist/United Methodist Church. I grew up a PK, i.e., Preacher’s Kid, primarily in the south central and southwest quarter of the state. My dad, Rev. Jim Little, served churches from South Haven KS to Meade KS, Johnson KS to Augusta, Scott City to name just a few. I consider my hometown Johnson, Kansas and my home church Johnson United Methodist Church. I graduated from Johnson High School, and after TruDee and I were married we lived there for about twelve years.

I am what one might consider a second career clergy, though it is really a multiple career clergy as I did a number of things before acknowledging the call to ministry. I graduated from Oklahoma Panhandle State University with a BA in speech and communications. I then went on to graduate from Saint Paul School of Theology with a Master of Divinity Degree, and will have served in 8 charges and 11 churches, including this new appointment to Newton Trinity Heights over the last 31 years.

My partner and spouse, TruDee and have been married 44 years and we raised two boys. They are both married now, Matthew is married to Emily and Nathan is married to Stephanie, and we are exceedingly fortunate to have 3 perfect granddaughters; Kadee, age 8, Nora, age 7, and Whitlee, age 6. Both families live in the Kansas City Area.

TruDee and I both enjoy going to movies, eating out, traveling when we can, visiting our kids and granddaughters. TruDee works at Hutchinson Community College as the Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Finance and Operations. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, sewing, crafting, art, and knitting to name a few things. In my spare time I enjoy just sitting with a cup of coffee and wondering about all things wonder-able and wonderful, fishing, woodworking, and mowing, just to mention a few.

I am thrilled to be a part of Newton Trinity Heights and walk alongside you in ministry, deepening and nurturing our faith and impacting the world around us both, locally and beyond by sharing the Good News of God’s love in Christ for the common good of the Kindom, through justice, kindness, and humility.

I love what I do as I continue to learn, grow and live out my faith and ministry with the people I serve. In terms of my practice of ministry I am particularly passionate about social justice, preaching, building relationships, theology, and connecting not only with the community of faith, but with the community at large.

May We Experience Peace and Light for Our Journey Together,

Rev. Kent
